Energy Transition Expert
Biography
Mykhailo Melnyk is an expert in energy efficiency, energy saving, and the development of energy projects. He has over 20 years of professional experience across the public sector, international projects, and business.
Since July 1, 2025, he has served as an Energy Transition Expert at the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine.
He earned his education at Lviv Polytechnic National University, where he received a degree in Energy Management Engineering (1999–2005), as well as qualifications as a teacher of Physics and Computer Science (2004–2005). He also studied at the private business school “777” (Economic Lyceum, 1997–1998).
Mykhailo began his professional career in 2004 as an assistant to the head of the power supply department at Rivneazot PJSC. He then worked as an assistant lecturer at the Department of Energy at the Lviv State Agrarian University.
Between 2007 and 2016, he held several managerial positions at Khlibprom Concern PJSC, Mriya Agroholding, T-Sukor Sugar Holding, and the Danish company SC Nordic. There, he was responsible for implementing energy efficiency projects, conducting energy audits, introducing energy management systems, and attracting international financing.
From 2016 to 2018, he served as Director of the Department of Fuel and Energy Complex and Energy Saving at the Lviv Regional State Administration. In this role, he coordinated the implementation of regional energy-saving programs and supported the activities of Covenant of Mayors signatory cities.
From 2019 to 2024, he worked as a Regional Adviser for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) project supporting Ukraine’s Energy Efficiency Fund in the Ternopil region.
Throughout his career, he has led and participated in more than 60 seminars and trainings on energy efficiency, condominium development, grant funding opportunities, and pilot projects in thermal modernization and cleaner production.
He holds certification to perform energy efficiency assessments of buildings and to inspect engineering networks. He is a regular participant in international industry exhibitions and forums, and is a speaker on sustainable community development.
