Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine Created
On November 9, the founding meeting of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine took place. It includes 16 communities dependent on coal mining enterprises or coal-fired power plants. Communities located in the front-line and occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions also joined the Association as honorary members. In total, representatives from 5 regions of Ukraine joined the association.
Communities that joined the Association: Burshtyn, Chervonohrad, Belz, Pershotravensk, Petropavlivka, Novovolynsk, Poromiv, Lytovezh, Zelenodolsk, Ladyzhyn, Sokal, Dobrotvir, Velyki Mosty, Mykolaiv, Ternivka, Pavlohrad.
Honorary members: Toretsk, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Dobropillia, Hirske.
The goal of the Association is to promote a just transition for monoprofile territorial communities dependent on coal mining and thermal generation, represent the interests of communities in the processes of just transformation, energy transition, and post-war territory recovery, as well as to promote local and regional development.
The Association aims to facilitate the exchange of experience among coal communities in planning a just transition and to cooperate with each other, government representatives, and foreign financial institutions.
The founding meeting of the association was held with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
