Energy Management in Communities
What is energy management and why communities need it? What benefits does it bring and what steps are required to implement an energy management system?
These and other questions were discussed during today’s online webinar featuring leading experts. The speakers included Mykhailo Melnyk, Energy Transition Expert at the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine and Serhiy Kosharuk, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Nonprofit Energy Agency.
The event is a part of a training webinar series on “Implementation and Development of Community Energy Management Systems.”
The program was created for mayors and specialists from coal communities, as well as managers of municipal institutions and professionals working in housing and utilities, economics and energy.
Its goal is to equip community representatives with practical energy management tools and modern approaches to managing energy resources — helping them reduce electricity costs, increase transparency in the use of public funds and ultimately create conditions for sustainable development.
“Energy efficiency measures are becoming increasingly important for communities each year. While in the past international donor assistance was primarily directed toward urgent solutions for electricity and heat supply, today funds are more often allocated to optimizing energy consumption. Webinars like this are meant to guide communities through every stage of change and development—from introducing energy monitoring systems to drafting municipal energy plans and securing donor funding for energy efficiency projects,” stated Andriy Tabinskyy, CEO of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine.
