Engaging Citizens to the Just Transition of Coal Communities in Lviv region

17 April 2026

Today in Sheptytskyi, Andriy Tabinskyy, CEO of the Association, took part in the opening conference of the project “Engaging Citizens to the Just Transition of Coal Communities in Lviv region.”

The project brought together representatives of seven communities: Belz, Velyki Mosty, Dobrotvir, Lopatyn, Radekhiv, Sokal and Sheptytskyi.

During the event, participants discussed in detail the processes of just transition in Lviv region, with a particular focus on the Sheptytskyi microregion. Special attention was given to three key areas: strategic planning, mechanisms for citizen engagement, and effective communication at the community level.

“Clear planning based on high-quality strategies, broad engagement of civil society, and strong international partnerships are the foundations of successful just transition efforts worldwide. I am also pleased to welcome Ms. Marina Meuss on her appointment as Programme Director of the Power4Just Transition programme at GIZ Ukraine. We look forward to fruitful cooperation and joint initiatives that will strengthen our coal regions,” stated Andriy Tabinskyy.

The project is implemented by the NGO European Dialogue with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie.
