Historical and Local History Museum of Dobrotvir
An essential component of the just transition of European cities that have successfully restructured their economies and overcome dependence on coal or thermal energy generation is preserving the memory of their past. Culture and historical memory become integral parts of a just transition, alongside innovative technologies, investments, infrastructure development, and the growth of small and medium-sized businesses.
This European tradition of cherishing one’s history should also be strengthened in Ukraine. The Dobrotvir community in Lviv region, which is a member of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine, follows a similar path.
Since 1995, the Historical and Local History Museum of Dobrotvir and Surrounding Villages, named after Yosyp Brykaylo, a local historian, artist, and collector who assembled the museum’s exhibition, has been operating.
Today, the museum's collection includes about three thousand artifacts from the Nadbuzhzhia region. It features reconstructions of dwellings and tools used by early humans, fragments of ceramics from different periods, weapons from the princely era, household items, historical documents, photographs, and more.
A special highlight is the exhibition "History of the Dobrotvir Thermal Power Plant and the Settlement."This exhibition is a testament to the European tradition of preserving the history of significant industrial and energy facilities that have played a crucial role in the community’s life for decades.
We believe that one of the museum's future exhibitions will tell the story of the town’s transformation—the journey towards sustainable development, economic stability, and energy independence. We sincerely wish this for the community!
And if you ever pass near Dobrotvir, feel free to visit the museum if you have the chance. You'll support kind-hearted people and learn many interesting things.
