Just Transition in coal communities of the Western Donbas
Just Transition in coal communities of the Western Donbas is a rather complex, yet extremely necessary process.
Besides the economic repurposing of the territory and the retraining of residents employed in the coal mining sector, it is also necessary to address many other typical regional issues, particularly environmental and social ones. Additionally, the relative proximity to the front line negatively impacts the investment attractiveness of the region.
During a visit to the Petropavlivka Territorial Community of the Dnipropetrovsk Region, the head of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine, Andriy Tabinskyy, and the adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Valentyna Moskalenko, discussed key problems, challenges, and prospects for change with the deputy head of the community, Ivan Leonov.
"We have a common view that today it is extremely important to create opportunities for social interaction that will promote the manifestation of the creative potential of individual residents. The community has a large human resources potential, and there are prospects here both for the launch of new production and various businesses in the service sector, particularly tourism. The Association will help the community in every possible way in the process of attracting grant funds for small and medium-sized businesses and finding opportunities for international investments," stated Andriy Tabinskyy.
