Just Transition of Coal Communities of Ukraine: practices of EU States
Romania, Poland, and Germany have extensive experience in the process of a just transition, adapting their regional economies to new challenges. They create jobs, invest in renewable energy, and support communities while attracting multi-billion-dollar fundings. For example, Romania has established plans for the joint development of communities, Poland implements social support programs for miners, and Germany has focused on legislative regulation of the process.
For Ukraine, this experience is a valuable tool in finding its own solutions. Uniting community efforts, supporting miners, and developing renewable energy sources are key areas that are already being implemented with the participation of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine. Together with partners, we help communities attract investments, implement local economic development tools, and provide support in advocating for community interests at all levels.
