Memorandum of Support and Cooperation
The Lviv Regional State Administration signed a memorandum of cooperation with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Dobrotvir Village Council, and DTEK. This truly historic and significant event took place in Lviv during a large-scale conference on preparing the region for the winter period and transforming the Chervonohrad coal microregion. The event was moderated by Andriy Tabinskyy, executive director of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine.
"The memorandum is aimed at ensuring the stability of the energy infrastructure, energy security, and heating systems in the settlement of Dobrotvir in the Lviv region. Due to the realities and consequences of the war, the Chervonohrad coal microregion faces significant risks associated with the upcoming heating season. We are grateful to our German partners for promptly responding to our requests and helping Ukraine in this difficult time. The importance of today's signed agreements for the residents of Dobrotvir and the entire Chervonohrad microregion canʼt be overstated," stated Andriy Tabinskyy.
Miriam Faulwetter, the director of the project implemented by GIZ in Ukraine (GIZ Ukraine), assured that she is well aware of the threats hanging over the communities of the Lviv region due to constant Russian shelling.
"We are working to help Ukraine build a decentralized energy supply system. Our plan includes short, medium, and long-term perspectives. Today, we are working on implementing short-term plans for this winter season. Such are the challenges of the time. However, no matter how difficult this task may seem now, we must systematically prepare for the heating seasons of the coming years. In the long term, a just transition means enhancing energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption, which is one of the conditions for joining the European Union. We have set ambitious goals, but before moving on to their implementation, we must address the urgent tasks related to preparing communities for the coming winter," said Miriam Faulwetter.
