Project Management for the Development of Coal Communities
The Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine, in cooperation with the NGO Civil Society Development Forum, organized a two-day training “European Opportunities for Communities: Skills in Effective Project Management.”
The event brought together representatives and project managers from Ukraine’s coal communities to strengthen their expertise in project development and management.
During two days, participants underwent intensive training based on EU and Council of Europe standards, mastering modern approaches to project management. The training focused on project development, donor requirements, digital tools such as DIY4Change, and use of artificial intelligence. Participants also gained practical skills in multi-level strategic planning.
Under the guidance of trainer and methodologist Oleksii Kovalenko, participants developed their own project ideas, learned how to structure applications logically, define expected results, and assess potential project impact. As a result, each participant created a concept for their own project proposal, enhancing it with innovative approaches. The final stage included presenting their outcomes and outlining plans for continued mentorship support.
“I am confident that the DIY4Change method will become a powerful driver for the development of coal communities. Participants gained not only valuable knowledge but also hands-on tools and practical skills to develop projects that meet EU standards and respond to the real needs of their communities. Despite the challenges of war, communities are showing readiness to move forward, generate strong ideas, and bring them to life,” stated Andriy Tabinskyy, CEO of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine.
