Representatives of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine met with Olena Kasyanchuk, the head of the Lytovezh territorial community of the Volyn region
At first glance, it's a small community with a population of approximately 3,500 people, but it demonstrates extraordinary activity and awareness in issues of just transition. Already, the community is preparing for the closure of Mine № 9 "Novovolynska," which necessitates the search for new investment opportunities for the community.
We've discussed numerous directions, but particular attention and involvement from the Association are required regarding the transfer of assets from mines undergoing liquidation to the ownership of the community for their subsequent use as ready-made industrial sites. After all, the surface infrastructure of these mines already includes existing utilities and can serve as a compelling example of just transition.
We're confident that, with the assistance of the relevant Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, the State Property Fund, the Ministry of Energy, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, we'll be able to contribute to resolving this issue in the near future.
