Study visit for representatives of coal communities to the Ladyzhyn Municipal Territorial Community

22 August 2025

The Association organized a study visit for representatives of coal communities to the Ladyzhyn Municipal Territorial Community.

Participants explored key infrastructure facilities demonstrating effective solutions in the energy and social sectors.

The event also brought together representatives of GIZ Ukraine, DTEK, AMER Prykarpattia and the Civic Activity Center of Western Donbas.

The delegation inspected the operation of a solid-fuel and a gas modular boiler plant, as well as cogeneration units. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the community has been actively investing in alternative heat sources to ensure energy security.

They also visited the Ladyzhyn Community Resilience Center and the Heritage Center for Creativity, where they saw both renovated public spaces and those still undergoing reconstruction. Here, participants learned about psychosocial support services available to community residents.

Another stop was the Ladyzhyn Municipal Hospital. Earlier this year, its rehabilitation center won a grant competition under an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and France and long-awaited renovation is set to begin soon.

An equally valuable part of the program was the visit to the NGO “Open Space for Community Development”, which implements social and economic projects in Ladyzhyn, supports entrepreneurship and youth initiatives and provides assistance to internally displaced persons and veterans.

In Ladyzhyn, participants witnessed tangible examples of energy-efficient and socially significant solutions that could be successfully replicated in other communities dependent on mining or thermal generation. Such study visits foster knowledge exchange and inspire the launch of new projects.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ladyzhyn and Vuhledar communities.

We sincerely thank our partners at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH for their consistent support of the Association’s initiatives and the many promising projects being implemented in the communities; the leadership of the Ladyzhyn community—Oleksandr Kolomiiets and Maksym Chekryhin—for their openness and willingness to share experience; and all participants for their commitment to cooperation and joint efforts for community development.
