The Action Plan for Just Transition in Sheptytskyi
Today in Sheptytskyi, the Action Plan for Just Transition was officially presented.
This strategic document outlines the key directions for the community’s development: transitioning from coal dependency to clean production, modernizing infrastructure, creating decent working conditions, ensuring social justice for all residents, and supporting environmental recovery.
The development of the Just Transition Action Plan took three years and involved more than 1,500 participants, including representatives from national, regional, and local governments, civil society, businesses, trade unions, coal industry workers, and both Ukrainian and international experts. A total of 51 events were held during the process.
“The Sheptytskyi community has strong development potential, and the Just Transition Plan outlines the pathways and tools to realize it. I would like to thank GIZ Ukraine and the Sheptytskyi City Council, that have worked over these years shoulder to shoulder—conducting environmental research, studying international practices, conducting sociological surveys, consulting experts, exploring funding sources, and facilitating numerous public consultations.
Thanks to the synergy of many people’s efforts, we have a comprehensive list of projects that should and can be implemented. The implementation of the Just Transition Plan will be not only a regional success—it will become a national achievement. This experience will serve as a model for other coal regions just beginning their transformation journey,” stated Andriy Tabinskyy, CEO of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine.
The development of the Just Transition Action Plan is being carried out by the Sheptytskyi City Council with support from the project “Just Transition of Coal Regions and Green Recovery of Ukraine’s Energy Sector,” implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
