What role can green hydrogen play in the future of Ukraine’s coal communities?

Andriy Tabinskyy, Executive Director of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine, took part in the roundtable discussion “Green Hydrogen and the Future of Regions: A Stakeholder Dialogue”.
The event brought together representatives of government institutions, local authorities, businesses, academia, and international organizations to discuss the potential of green hydrogen as a tool for economic diversification in regions undergoing structural transformation.
Participants explored international experience in developing the hydrogen economy, opportunities for launching pilot projects in Ukrainian communities, as well as the investment, technical, and regulatory conditions needed to implement such initiatives at the local level.
“Ukraine is open to new business opportunities. Coal communities are ready to serve as platforms for pilot projects and partnerships, and it is precisely this kind of dialogue that helps turn investor interest into concrete solutions on the ground,” stated Andriy Tabinskyy.

For coal communities, identifying new pathways for economic development is one of the key objectives of a just transition. This is why the Association continues to support dialogue among communities, businesses, and international partners on innovative solutions that can create new jobs and contribute to sustainable local development.
