Just Transition: The Practice of the Czech Republic
We continue to explore the best practices of the just transition of the Czech Republic.
Today we visited the Karlovy Vary region, one of the coal regions currently undergoing transformation supported by the Just Transition Fund (6.3 billion Czech crowns for the region).

As part of just transition, both large infrastructure projects (a 25 million euro innovation center) and support for small and medium businesses through vouchers (ranging from 50,000 to 500,000 crowns) are being implemented in the region.
An important principle of business support project implementation is the "umbrella" from the local government, which takes care of bureaucratic issues when providing business subsidies. Also a business needs to do to receive subsidies is work in a specified field and create a certain number of jobs.
The city of Sokolov is a prime example of successful just transition, where the Sylvester landfill, covering 270 hectares, now functions as a golf resort.
